President Obama recently mentioned plans for holding a White House meeting to discuss proceeding with immigration reform legislation. And now he is keeping that promise by setting June 8th, just three weeks from now, to hold the meeting. According to Politico: "The meeting will be an opportunity to launch a policy conversation that we hope will be able to start a debate that will take place in Congress later in the year," the official, who asked not to be named, said. Asked if the session would be billed as a summit or a forum, like similar meetings on health care...

I appreciate IV for providing this website for sharing our immigration issues and concerns in this long journey.
Good luck to all IV members who are still awaiting for good day to come.
Thanks,
Conguratulations...do you consider to donate anything to IV...

My wife had traveled with Emirates via Dubai last year on AO. No issues at all. This year we are thinking for flying Etihad as they are offering better price. Does anyone have any experience with Etihad airlines with AP?

I am speculating this. Elite people in USA predicted this situation in early 90s and they put Country quota. We all knew that countries like UK, Germany, France are Staunch Allies of USA for many decades. So USA did not want those country persons to wait years . India was least favored country in past due to many political reasons. Though it is changing now still USA may like to give preference to many of their close Allies. Canada had TN Visa but India does not have similar thing. If this is a speculation then it is possible to change Country Quota. I strongly believe that it is easier to increase GC quota or recapture bill than removing country quota.
Actualy per country quota was made in 60s replacing and even more rigid system that alloted quotas based on existing us population origin (mainly from western europe) by
Senator Kennedy.

So hypothetically:
person has approved 140 from comp-A but moves to comp-B
A revokes the H-visa and 140.
The person can still extend for 3 years, through B using the approved 140 (from A).
This can continue till the day the persons PD becomes current?
It makes sence because once the 140 is approved and 485 is not yet applied for, there is essentially "no application pending" for this person on which they can issue and RFE, right?
However, when he tries to extend using the older (comp-A) 140, cant the CIS issue and RFE for evidence from comp A that they still intend to hire this person in future??
If the company cancels the I-140, that means the company is not supporting your GC, plain and simple. I-140 should be in good standing and approvable for extending the H1b status.

Man,
You can take any or take both. It does not matter as long as they have at least one to see....Dont take tension, there is nothing to FP as long as you attend it

Recently I started looking other options in India, Britain, Canada and Australia.
Here is what I found just in last 1 week.
Britain puts new cap on non-European high skilled immigration
United Kingdom, Immigration, Coalition Government Announces Temporary Migration Cap - Newland Chase - 30/06/2010, Government & Public Sector, Labour and Employment, Immigration (http://www.mondaq.com/article.asp?articleid=104198)
Non-EU immigration to the UK: the statistics visualised | UK news | guardian.co.uk (http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/jun/26/non-eu-immigration-uk-statistics#zoomed-picture)
The federal government is seeking a limit on the total number of applications for Canada immigration to 20,000 annually
Canada to welcome high skilled and wealthy immigrants | Canada Updates (http://www.canadaupdates.com/content/canada-welcome-high-skilled-and-wealthy-immigrants)
Australia announced new visa ruler to target Indians
New visa rules not targeting Indians: Oz envoy - World News - IBNLive (http://ibnlive.in.com/news/new-visa-rules-not-targeting-indians-oz-envoy/125603-2.html)
This may be the result of global economic slowdown. But China and India are allowing more immigration. Now high skill immigration is a new measure of future economic growth.
It is true that US is a far better country for immigrants - it is a lot easier to assimilate in here than anywhere else in the world. US not fixing its immigration system will only make the brightest stay in the home country!!
Cannot fault them either for staying, who wants to be stuck in the gc system with no end in sight?

[QUOTE=PS: The whiners brigade who think USCIS moved EB2 forward to make money out of EAD should know now[/QUOTE]
Maybe I am missing something here...Why do people think its a USCIS conspiracy to move PD forward...If someone's PD is current and he/she gets a 1 year EAD again, they will pay the $360 fee if they filed their I-485 before July 30, 2007, but they don't have to pay the fee again even if they get just a 1 year EAD...only they might have to do is to file the EAD application again next year WITHOUT the fee...

Dont see anything you mentioned about shortage of workers on Marketplace.
It would be great if we can get some support from David Heenan like Richard Florida.

I got my H1b Renewed till July 2009 with a passport expiring in August 2006. I submitted my application in March 2006. So there is no issue relating to expiry of passport while applying for H1B.
Also as Krishna pointed out you can apply for a passport reneweal upto one year in advance. For stamping they require you passport to be valid 6 months after your visa expiry but again of you have more than one year left on your passport you can go to US consulate and explain the Indian policy they will stamp the visa on the same passport. Last year I got my H1b Stamped valid till July 2006 on a Passport expiring in August 2006.

I have my visa stamping this week in Nogales, Mexico. Does anybody have any advice, tips, etc? Hoping to get my stamping on the same day of my appointment, thats one of the reasons I booked by appointment there.
I will be using the assistance of NVS International for my transportation, bank draft, hotel, etc. If anyone needs assistance in Nogales they can help you out: www.nogalesvisaservices.com. They seem to offer very good service in Nogales, heard good comments about them.

When My immigration came through, my family and I all flew down by air, stamped ourselves as Landed Immigrants and then came back to states.
You will have to give somebody's address at the airport and also apply for your PR card before you come back to states. Once you get your PR card then you are free to travel even by road passing the border post otherwise without the PR card you will have to apply for a visa every time you go to Canada. The PR card will be posted to the that somebody's house so that person can post it to the US. I am a landed immigrant since Feb 2005 but still live in states.
To maintain the PR status you have to be the country for 2 years.

My observation... based on i140 application
My case was sent to NSC and it remained in NSC, however applications of 5 colleagues of mine got transfered to TSC... and another 3 remained at NSC
There seems to be a pattern on how they transfer cases from NSC to TSC based on last name (this is totally based on a very small specimen)... posting it here to know if it holds any water
Last name starting with A, C, E, G, I, K..... transfered to TSC
Last name starting with B, D, F, H, J, L..... stayed at NSC
any comments? again this is only based on my observation on a very small # of cases
and the 140 was transferred to TSC.

Does the 45 day limit on being able to use a LC mean that priority dates from an approved LC and I-140 can no longer be ported when the GC process is started again through a new employer ?

Yes that is true, you have to show your passport and I-94 and EAD
you should be fine if they ask about expired I-94 (with stamp) as you have an extension till 2007.
so to answer your question show H1 extension if they ask.
hope this helps.
Good Luck :)
Actually I got H4 extension till Oct 1st 2007. Then H1B kicked in from same date(Oct 1st) until 2010, so new I-94 is with the current H1B...
Since I applied in July for AOS and got I-485 receipts in September, I think it doesn't matter if i am on H1 or H4 after that, since my status would be "Adjustment of status" right?,,not sure
So you think the H4 extension and the I-485 receipts would do? Or should I just show them the H1B, and tell them I plan to use EAD?
Thanks..!
