This is nothing more than manufactured non news.

You're right. So is most stuff on this forum.

It doesn't stop people from being interested in reading about carrier fumbles. It's like watching a slow motion train wreck.

No. Lens focal length is a function of the lens, not the body. I can take a lens with a focal length of 17mm from a full frame camera and put it on a crop camera, and the lens will keep the same focal length of 17 mm. Now, the amount of the imgae circle recorded on the crop camera vs. the full frame camera will be different. However, this has nothing to do with the focal length of the lens.

In short. LENS FOCAL LENGHT DOES NOT VARY WITH SENSOR SIZE.

I think you both just said exactly the same thing, so I'm not sure why Full of Win is arguing?

If I shoot my 50mm 1.8 II through my 7d I am effectively multiplying the lenses focal length with the cameras crop factor to give the photographs field of view. ie 50x1.6=80.

So focal length 50mm= field of view 80mm. (On a 1.6 crop)

Well, no, you will not. You are not using the FULL image circle on the EF lens on the 60D. Take that same EF 17-40 and put it on a 5D and your image will be composed differently. NOTE: the Lens has not changed it's focal length, but your image HAS changed.

The common misconception is that your field of view is what the CAMERA records. In actuality, it is what the LENS TRANSMITS to the camera. Since your 1.6 crop camera does not utilize the FULL lens image circle on an EF lens, it has the effect of zooming the transmitted image. SO your 17mm is not 17mm on a crop camera, it is the equivalent of a 27.2mm (28mm) EF-S lens. 17 x 1.6 = 27.2. On a 1D camera, that same 17mm is the equivalent of 22.1mm, where a 5D as a FULL FRAME camera is using the full image circle from the EF lens, so it is a true 17mm.

Allthough...This statement from thatisme 'So, you WILL get different focal lengths from 2 identically marked lenses where one is an EF-S lens and the other is an EF lens.' is false.

You will, in fact, get two different Field of Views but the same Focal Length.

The main problem with the UI I think is that it is too hard to access things that you want to do all the time. Everything is in that annoying palette with all those buttons, when instead Apple should move some things to the toolbar. I want to be able to change fonts and styles and justification with the click of a button. Also, it needs an equation editor. Until Apple fixes these things, I'm sticking with AppleWorks. Fortunately, I don't feel like I got ripped off because of Keynote 2.

Adobe has introduced a competitor to Apple's SoundTrack Pro dubbed SoundBooth (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/soundbooth/).

Try Adobe Soundbooth™. Soundbooth is a brand new application built in the spirit of Sound Edit 16 and Cool Edit that provides the tools video editors, designers, and others who do not specialize in audio need to accomplish their everyday work such as:

    -Editing audio quickly.
    -Cleaning up noisy audio.
-Visually identifying and removing unwanted sounds.
    -Recording and polishing voiceovers.
    -Adding effects and filters.
-Easily creating customized music—without musical expertise.

Similar to Adobe's LightRoom (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/01/20060109021315.shtml) application, SoundBooth is beginning its life as a public beta. Adobe is offering the software in Windows and Intel-Mac versions, and Adobe specifically mentions that they will not be offering a PowerPC version of the software.

Apple is quickly moving its focus towards Intel Macs, and no longer sells Power PC systems in many places. By focusing on Apple's future, we have been able to bring this powerful application to the Mac platform much more rapidly, and with a stronger feature set.

Adobe's Intel Mac FAQ (http://www.adobe.com/products/pdfs/intelmacsupport.pdf) still lists many of its popular programs (such as Creative Suite) as being ported to be Universal applications in their next revisions.

SoundBooth should be available in mid-2007. Pricing is to be determined.

Wow, I came into this thread late. I wonder where the other 39% percent of the Silverado is from? I would guess more than one country. I know about the US Toyota plant, but Honda, too?

Anyway, I kind of like the Honda Fit and if that's helping American workers, then all the more power to them.

Honda has been building cars in Ohio at least since the early '90s. Had a '93 Civic built in East Liberty or Marysville... can't remember which. Sadly, the Fits (I actually own an '09) come from Japan.

I once sat on a plane next to an intellectual property lawyer who was commuting to NYC for work from Rochester. As it turned out he had once worked for EK and was now working in the city.

When I conveyed my surprised over how strange it was that Eastman Kodak was lagging behind in digital imaging and still focused on film considering they were responsible for much of the technology behind digital imaging, he basically inferred that EK's leadership mismanaged their patent goldmine.

It's not offensive, it's a point of view, I myself think that "some" religions are full of crap and tell people to live their lives in fear and in denial of our greatest joys (just look at some "religions" point of view towards sex for example).
When I say I'm an Atheist it means I take no part in the religions game, I have no religion because I don't believe in a superior being (although I respect people's beliefs).
And yes, I consider Catholicism (the Vatican institution for example) an hypocrisy, or do you really think you'll ever see a black man or a woman become a Pope? Probably not. (it's just an example)
No one has the right to tell me what my opinion should be, Catholics probably think I'll go to hell for not believing in god and I respect that.
I just like to separate myself from everything bad that's being done in the name of religion these days and throughout history (censorship, terrorist attacks, "holy" wars against the middle east, the crusades, inquisition, and the list goes on...)
Most religions have a "beautiful" basis, but they're distorted by man, just look at Catholicism, Christ always said to aid the next man but you look at the Vatican and it's all spewing wealthiness and everything decorated in gold while more than half the world lives in complete misery, I can't pact with that.

Edit : I have no hate for you or your country, I haven't got hate for anyone, life's too short, but you're first post (Mike) sounded like others people religions were less than yours. Maybe I got it wrong.
And I know of course that African countries enslave their own people, hell, my own country killed a lot of natives in Brasil and Africa, I'm not saying it was only the American ones, doesn't mean I think it's right.
And yes, the constitution was created (like any other big social change) because the oppressed started to rebel, not by the goodness of the white man. A lot of people died fighting for equal rights, the constitution wasn't handed on a plate.

PS - I don't know half the religions in this world so I'm basing my opinion on the religions I do know and that prevail in my country.

I'd love to see RATM win just for the fun of it, but I reckon the fact that Joe's single is going on sale in shops will win it. Killing in the Name was out in 1992? There won't be any physical copies to buy, and that'll make all the difference...

Are you sure it is just PDF's? I think the location downloaded documents (of all types) are saved is a function of the web browser, not the application that opens each document. I know that Safari defaults its downloads to the desktop, so maybe Mozilla does the same. Check the preferences to set where you want downloaded documents to save.

Previsualization is the most under rated aspect to photography, you're never going to be much of a photographer if you simply don't have a clear and concise vision of what you want the final print to come out like before you start shooting, this includes what post processing you're going to be doing.
    Bingo! We have a winner!
Looking, but not seeing. Thinking, but not imagining.

I would be astonished to find it on a faster machine like the 17" iMac. Point No. 2: Don't take anybody's word for it. Drive down to your nearest Apple retailer. Look at the machines yourself. That should end all arguments.

I have a recent ibook running jaguar - it has had a clean install (twice) and, quite frankly, its annoyingly slow. This is a current mac, running its current os, and its hardly acceptable - running illustrator? expect the beach ball, the same with large word documents. And I still see the beachball with annoying frequency in the finder. I don't care that this isnt the top of the range 3,000 quid machine - it is stupid to only expect acceptable performance in Word on the top of the line machine. No, don't take my word for it, go have a look at a fully loaded i-book

Again, have your actually seen this "choppiness" on that $2000 machine with the brand new OS? Now for the issue of MHz, browse the web sites of the expensive UNIX workstations and servers. Look at the clock speeds of the offerings from IBM, HP, SGI, and Sun. For the most part, you will see that their machines have clock speeds in the sub-GHz range. Yet these are the machines of choice when price is no object and the job must get done. Just think about this: these boards are filled with laments that effectively tell you that you need substaintially higher clock speeds to run a computer game than you need to simulate the gas flow in a jet engine. Don't you think that something is just a bit warped here?

these machines are 64-bit, with floating point performance that widdles all over apples current offerings. The reason they are used is for this feature alone - and yepI would rather run my simulations on a sparc box than a pc, although the cost of a cheap linux box is pushing us down that route. At some point there is a balance between cost and performance. Yes it is odd that I need the fastest box around to run ut2k3 acceptably, and i agree there is something wrong with the way the market is being driven, but I suppose if thats what customers want (and are prepared to pay for), this is what they'll get....

Think. Think. Think. Apple does not "appear" to be purposesly crippling its systems. The entirity of the corporation orbits about the Macintosh. No company would purposely cripple its central product. The fact that Apple is only one of two profitable personal computer manufacturers serve as loud testimony to the contrary. Just because a bunch of idle college students post things on the Internet does not make them so.

never intentionally 'crippled' a machine? what about teh video card on teh ibook?

A developer friend of mine tried to download the previous dev release for my system (iMac G5), but it wouldn't install right for some reason. It would hang on restart. I had to re-install from the CD and re-update everything. Even tried disabling all my hacks and startup items, but it just did it again. I believe it was the combo version (2117 I think). I'm thinking it didn't get download right or something though, because he was able to get it working on his (Intel and PPC), a friend of our's (dual G5 PowerMac), and my Mother's (Intel mini). Hoping the new one works better, but if not, at least I know how to fix it. When it works though, it's fast. Real fast.
