robbieduncan is right-on with his explanation, you're making incorrect claims: focal lengths are independent of the size of the sensor, a 50 mm lens will be a 50 mm lens on a medium format body, a full frame analog body or an APS-C-sized dslr. What changes is the field of view, which is an angle. It is this angle which is different on the above-mentioned cameras. The reason why people write something to the effect `a 50 mm lens on a crop body is equivalent to 75~80 mm lens on a full frame body' is that we've gotten used to associating focal lengths on 35 mm bodies to FOVs. Sort of like Americans got used to measuring distances in miles rather than kilometers.

It is you standard of measure. It has not changed with Digital. This is why we have conversion factors and have to talk of EFFECTIVE focal lengths.

I'm expecting both a retail DVD release as well as a downloadable release. I'll personally be getting the DVD for easier install on multiple machines.

You know that DVDs are slow, right? Even this 5400RPM drive is 4x faster than the DVD would be. This is my gray install DVD, which I'm going to replace with Lion once it's out, btw. This works fine with USB sticks/SD cards and the regular Snow Leopard DVD as well, if you need it more often. Just make sure to get an USB stick that is faster than the DVD (~10MB/s).

Have you looked at the Chrysler 200 convertible. It's pretty sharp but not as "macho" as the camaro or challenger. I had a sebring years ago, and loved it even though it was iffy as far as "quality." Still, probably the best convertible I've ever had. I rented a g6 hardtop convertible and it was great other than the tiny trunk.
No offense, but that is one ugly car and far too conservative for me. If I was married off and had kids, sure. ;)

I think what we are all seeing is that the differentiating factor between Apple and "the others" is no longer software. Windows 7 is now good enough that it can easily compete with (and in many areas, exceed) the software offering on any Mac.
It's now down to hardware manufacturers to do the work to bring their machines up to a standard to match the OS. From what I've seen Dell have been making significant improvements in recent months and years and Lenovo still exudes quality.
Three or four years ago I wouldn't have considered anything that wasn't made by Apple. But now I'd definitely look at a Windows machine first when replacing my desktop and I'd give some Windows laptops a lot of consideration as well.

Quite why people keep expecting announcements of upgraded laptops at a photography conference is beyond me.
The rumors were just so persistent this time... I think the "sources" that have been stringing us along on these Merom updates should be ignored from now on.

4S. I like the name, and it makes sense to keep continuity with the previous naming scheme (3GS). I guess we'll see a true iPhone 5 next summer.

Considering all the iOS elements in Lion - namely Launchpad - I can't see the homescreen grid layout on iOS devices changing anytime soon, but I hope for a lot of UI improvements elsewhere (e.g. notifications).

Well, I'm not very good at guessing numbers but it goes all the way around the corner now. :) We had one rather arsey guy who tried to queue jump to the front of the queue but the security swiftly dealed with him at which point he screamed that we were all sad loser geeks. :rolleyes:

Pages and Numbers are much easier to use, and far nicer to look at than Office. If I don't need the horsepower I prefer iWork. If I do need the horsepower I have Office 2003 running on a late 2009 mini that is Windows 7 only. Office 2003 works great with W7, and it's not all blue looking like some of the newer versions.
As usual Windows runs MS software much better than Mac OS does.

It's nice to see that the banner from the Apple website is being replicated at the MW venue (assuming it isn't a fake), but it shouldn't been seen as an indication that 2007 is going to bring amazing products. Remember that apple has a track record of over-hyping itself.

I think the whole thing about the 2-10 person shops moving to the cloud is a bit over-hyped/over-rated, really? I do a lot of consulting and on-site service work for small businesses like these, and none of them have moved anything to the cloud yet, except for one instance where they outsource a Microsoft Exchange and Sharepoint server.
The thing is, moving a firm's mail server to the cloud is a much easier sell than everything else, in most cases. That's because if their Internet connection should go down, it would cause an equal amount of hassle and service unavailability whether email was handed internally or externally. No connection means no new email coming in. By contrast, once a place gets rid of physical application or file servers and puts that stuff in the cloud? They may free themselves from having to take care of the hardware, but any Internet outage means inability to use those apps or get to those saved files. The small firms are usually the same ones who can't really afford multiple redundant broadband Internet connections.
Thanks for the pics kingdonk. It looks like the Open Directory service is there in the pictures, although maybe it's unconfigurable at the moment. I do not see NFS which is surprising.
Overall, with the killing of the Xserve and Apple catering OS X Server more to the SOHO, it will be a tough sell since a lot of 2-10 person shops that don't require more than 500GB can probably have most of their infrastructure on the cloud.
If they need massive amounts of storage and not a lot of physical space then an XServe would fit better with a RAID attached and backup unit.

Here are some photos I took at the launch... I resized them to 350px as the forum script was re-encoding them and they had horrible JPEG artefacts over the thumbnails previously.

I have just figured something out in the server admin app that allows you to modify the services i will upload the images of this after i finnish uploading the rest of the images. this will take some time.
