Ok, so I hate to admit it, but I can confirm from my experimental days that OSX 86 reports at least P4 CPUs innaccurately as mentioned above. The system profiler in OSX86 does attempt to describe the chip. My HT P4 2.4 GHz was reported as a 3.something. Don't know if it was the hyperthreading or the HT coupled with the OSX86 hacked version itself was the problem in the reporting.Yeah, OS X seems to report non-standard Intel chips as "Genuine Intel". I wouldn't be surprised if it goes into a debug mode.

Haha fun fun processors!! Aren't intel trying to up the power efficiency of their processors in the near future?
Wonder if they're trying to keep a hold of Apple, as that is the biggest issue for Apple with the current range of processors.

Maybe now they realize that even companies like Toyota want some more ways to create stuff. Better?
And it isn't about the theme... It could be just a black screen with the text "Buy it." But it would be a jailbreak content made by a big company. It means something.

Oh come on, we aren't really going to resort to the "there's only one way to design a mobile device" argument, are we? You're telling me the only way to design the Galaxy Tab was to make it look identical to the iPhone 3GS?
My iPhone 4 doesn't look anything like my wife's iPhone 3GS, so apparently there are at least two ways to design a mobile phone.
None of the other Android phones or tablets I've seen look like iPhones either. Only Samsung's.
The galaxy tab looks different to the phone 3gs from my experience with it.
It is lacking a chrome bezel & the sides are flattened, black matte plastic and lacks a physical "home" button.
They are similar but far from identical.

I rather wait a bit longer if they get it right.
No fault in that. But the urge to switch now... soo... great...

TechCrunch likely doesn't know jack about dates or new features in iOS 5. Just saying.
They have a terrible track record. I think the fact that they're still going with the iPad 3 release this fall completely invalidates anything they're saying.

Back OT, I've not installed Sophos on my MBP yet, still waiting for more verdicts from you lot :)
The software is fine. You won't notice it unless you encounter malware etc. You can always uninstall it if you don't like it.

How hard would it be for wifi/app store to be baked into every Mac going forward? That is, if you wipe the machine, turn it on, and the first thing it does (after the logo) is detect Wifi, connect and offer the app store along with basic disc utilities right on the memory chip?
Mind you, it wouldn't help existing macs... hrm.

This update is not good enough, apple. Do more.
8 megapixel camera with 1080P recording.
64GB option
Dual core processor
Those updates are not good enough for a device that gets an update only once a year.
Not enough.
I am going to buy white iphone 4 for 99 dollars or 49 dollars this summer and skip the iPhone 5 on paying 199 dollars.

I would go for an Apple phone if they are as easy to use and featurepacked as a sony erriccson, but with that special apple-y goodness like a wifi voip mode or ichat voice and video hook up or something.
That really would be very very cool.

In other words, you couldn't port Linux to the iPhone if you wanted to.
I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but they already have ported it:
http://www.idroidproject.org/
Android is just another customized Linux, and the iDroid project ports Android to Apple's iGadgets.

That being said, DVD quality downloads now (or in the near future) are a distinct possibility. Again, bandwidth is a mofo. How do you offer so much content, with such large file-sizes, to millions of customers simultaneously, while also maintaining bandwidth for music downloads.
Will there be a download queue, so we have to wait in line to download content?
What if you get a $2 discount on the movie if you allowed Apple to point up to 10 customers to your machine to download that movie, bittorrent-style? (Obviously this would be secure Apple technology, not bittorrent per se.)

(have not read all the posts, so forgive me if already pointed out)
Uh....the phone companies track you and know where you are....they have to so that you can get a signal from a cell tower...so why is this a big deal?

Wow apple is way out of line here, this is not right. That's like if the first company to create a netbook sued every other company who made a netbook afterward.
That does not make any sense as a comparison at all. First of all a netbook is just a laptop.
Imitation is the sincerest of flattery
Charles Caleb Colton Lacon: or, Many things in few words, 1820
Many other examples of the same thoughtthough not as eloquent or quotableantedate even this.
The Caleb estate will be suing that other guy for infringing on his comments.
Indeed. Apple spends less on R&D than many of their competitors.
It is expensive to reverse engineer everything.
shame really that Apple is resorting to Microsoft-esque tactics. If you can't beat em, just sue em, mentality.
But they are beating them, beating them all. Beating them to a pulp in the phone market, and obliterating them in the tablet market. The only chance the competition seems to believe they have is copying Apple.
They are beating them to tiny bits. So they are beating them and suing them.

Please! Make the damn phone bigger! Oh no, it may weigh a few more grams. Currently, the iphone4 is a tiny phone. For us adults, please increase the screen size, and probably, the width.
I don't necessarily want it to be bigger just to be bigger, but I am tired of the now-stale marketing schtick Apple does year after year, "The new iPhone/MacBook/iPad/iPod is now ten percent thinner/lighter, smaller!!!!! And the crowd always goes crazy. It's just getting dumb at this point. Like with the iPad, there is absolutely no need to make the iPad any thinner or lighter; 90% of the people who buy one immediately buy a case which inherently makes it thicker and heavier. Same with the iPhone. I see them around all the time, and I honestly don't remember the last one I saw not in a case that made it bulkier and heavier.

Over the air syncing for iWork documents on the iPad?
I just started using it. More like online storage.
I'm not yet certain if it syncs dropbox style but doesn't look that way so far (to me)

That just means you'll get the updated MBP's later than us here in the States. :p
Naturally, it takes them a while to convert them to Right Hand Drive ;)

I think to the end user, the difference between Yonah and Merom is minimal.
From a supply chain perspective, it is far easier to manage one SKU than multiple ones. You immediately half the number of CPUs that you need to stock by moving all mobile to Merom. And give the fact that some speculate the price between the two CPUs are minimal, and that Apple is a premium brand, it wouldn't be a far reach to see that it is quite advantageous for them to move onto better hardware and keep the price as is.
It's a speed bump, if anything. Not something Apple typically makes a big fuss about, despite the fact we know it's two different cores. Yonah -> Merom is a far smaller ordeal than Merom -> Santa Rosa.
