I don't want you to freak out because my case is probably a very small fraction of the visa applications BUT since this thread is specifically related to PIMS, I thought I'd give you my example. Good news for you is, you are going to India. I was stuck in Canada not knowing long it might take for the PIMS to get updated. I ended up touring North Canada but I wish I could've traveled with a peace of mind.

I'm a Jul 02 filer and I received the 485 and 765 notices recently.
However, the PRIORITY DATE cell in receipts for both 485 & 765 is BLANK. Is this the usual practice? Shouldn't my PD be populated on these receipt notices?

Thanks a lot for the links snathan. Is it possible to return to India at any stage of GreenCard processing and then come back to India once the EAD is approved.

Hi,
Can you tell me what your lawyer sent to the USCIS. How did he link the approved 140 to the pending 485. Did he fill any form? I am in the same boat. My both 140's are with the same company though.

Yr employer is correct. You can't apply for SSN before OCT 1st as yr H1 starts from OCT 1st. When you go to SSN office, they look at yr current i-94 to find out yr current immigrant status (H1/H4/L1,etc) and if you current i-94 is for H4 then they won't allow you to apply for SSN. I had same exp for my wife. We applied on 2nd Oct in VA.
Hope this helps.

I got my H1b Renewed till July 2009 with a passport expiring in August 2006. I submitted my application in March 2006. So there is no issue relating to expiry of passport while applying for H1B.
Also as Krishna pointed out you can apply for a passport reneweal upto one year in advance. For stamping they require you passport to be valid 6 months after your visa expiry but again of you have more than one year left on your passport you can go to US consulate and explain the Indian policy they will stamp the visa on the same passport. Last year I got my H1b Stamped valid till July 2006 on a Passport expiring in August 2006.

I just wanted to confirm that it is ok to travel on AP via Dubai from Emirates without H1B stamp. Has anyone done this recently and can you share your experience? Thanks.

In Dubai when you come back you have to show your AP and supporting docs if they ask you to. I came back this July 18th.

go to uscis.gov and sign up for e-filing. fill in the I-131 form for urself and wife et al. u will seriously save a ton of money that can be done in 15 minutes and follow uscis instructions only.
did that 3 months ago. got an RFE about photographs not being compliant with us passport requirements. sending response as I type.

My attorney received attorney's copy of 485/140 notices on Nov-14-2007. I didn't receive my copy so far as I had moved after filing my 485. However I used attorneys copies for filing my EAD etc.

I am booking Lufthansa Airlines, travelling via Munich to Delhi.
Visa on passport is expired but I do have approval of H1B till 2010.
Do I need transit Visa? Did anybody travelled this route lately? Do you knowbody who has expereinced this lately.

by the same or first connecting flight without leaving the
transit lounge. Warning: Transit only possible at Frankfurt,
Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf Airports, see conditions below.

above if holding a residence permit for U.S.A.. (SEE NOTE
5151)
NOTE 5151: This TWOV facility also applies for the return

Sounds complicated. I don't want to rain on your parade, but having more than one person in a freelance "business" (a business is anything that earns money) is very complicated. You have to work out tax and wages.
I'd suggest starting alone and then getting someone to help you, or share work with some else in a similar situation.
