It's not DirecTV that has a good app, it's Tivo, which powers directv boxes... don't give DirecTV any credit, they're stuck in the 90s

Have fun using those on a 3.5" or 4" screen.
I'm not saying they WILL do that on iPod, but they'd be more likely to do it than a touch-screen home button.
I don't think the gestures would be that bad anyway. I've been using 10.7 Lion for a week now and some of those 4-finger gestures work perfect on the trackpad which is almost the size of an iPod anyway.

this has nothing to do with iPads i suppose but a co-worker and I at lunch yesterday had our iPhones out (me ATT & Co-worker VZW) he could not get any bars and therefore his apps were useless for 3G (we were trying a GPS Map) and I got on and got teh voice commands within 30 seconds. I had 4 bars, he had none. He said his Verizon iPhone was about useless for any service. he had ATT before but the company has a Verizon plan and his phone is company paid...

People are wrong who think Alacarte would boil down to a handful of channels. The opposite would happen as people would not purchase duplicate channels with similar content. They would choose the one they like best and then choose something more narrowly focused in their interest range.
People are confusing ratings on tv with what people would actually pay for to have brought into their home every month. They are not the same thing.

I don't think MediaWiki supports using categories as filters.
If there's a "Terminal Commands" subcategory of a "Software" category, the CLI applications are still classed as software. By putting them in a subcategory, we are not hiding them, shunning them or separating them by "walls of steel". We are merely putting articles in logical groupings to make them easier to find. They are not split off because they're not "Mac-like".
A simpler category structure does not necessarily make the guides any simpler to use.

And no it doesn't support filters, but we can certainly fake it.
They're split off from the main software category because of the perception that a lot of users may not want to look at the Terminal... it does reduce the amount of articles in the main software category.

The last time I had surgery (January 2, 1986) I was knocked out via IV.
As for what it felt like...
They had put the IV in before I had gone into surgery, and it really wasn't that bad. When the doctor and his assistant showed up the anesthesiologist let me know that it was time.
He ask me to start counting backwards from 100. I felt a warm sensation moving up my arm from the IV and then into my chest. A moment later I felt like I was walking out of a fog... but I wasn't, I was lying in recovery... and I got sick.
It took a few minutes to finally become completely cognizant of my surroundings, but all and all it wasn't a bad experience. The time for the surgery was completely gone (as if it hadn't happened). It felt like (going from fully awake before the surgery back to fully awake again after) it had only taken a couple minutes (the surgery was about 4 hours as I recall).

I totally agree. Why anyone would hold out for that color and why Apple spent so much time trying to get that white paint to work properly is beyond me.

As for downloading maps on-the-fly, bad decision. True, I went many years using Google Maps for directions without major problems, but there definitely were some major headaches along the way. I can remember critical times when the I would be staring at a blue dot amongst a sea of gray. I mean, I still alive, so it couldn't have caused much trouble, right?

I don't know if Macrumors just got the labeling mixed up on those cameras, but the camera lens on the right that's inside the phone is the exact same camera sensor that I have in my launch day black iPhone 4. I've taken it apart several times and know that camera well. The one on the left (which MR labeled to be from a black iPhone) is the lens thatnis new to me.

my thoughts: iOS 5 will have a new revamped UI. The dock will now have a launchpad icon that will bring up all the applications. There will be no need for badges as the notifications will be present on the main page just like widgets. There will be feeds/social widgets on homepages that integrate with social networks i.e. Ping, Facebook, and Twitter..
Just my 2 cents.

Not surprised. Apple have created all this interest in the tablet market. For now they are top dog. They won't maintain whatever huge market share they have, but I'm sure they will remain top-dog for the next couple of years.

It certainly isn't useless, it's designed so you can get high-quality stereo audio through it. You can't do that with a mic socket, the power in the socket for the mic can affect the sound quality, it causes a buzz. If you want high quality audio get a USB headset or a USB/FW microphone preamp. For the majority the iPhone headphones/mic or the built-in mic work just fine. Why do you need support for PC-style headsets?
Anyone doing serious recording through a 1/8 jack needs their head examined. The jack is useless in its current state. Why do I need support for 'PC style' headsets? Well for one there are a ton of new high quality headsets I could choose from and for two I could have a free USB port. The headphones that support the audio out microphone capability are either expensive as hell or not good for long periods of time.
